Due to the influence of the surrounding ocean, the
changes in the temperature from day to day and season to season are
relatively small. The average temperatures change only about 2 to 4 °C
between the coolest months (July and August) and the warmest months (January
to February). Around the coast, the average night-time temperatures can be as
low as 18 °C and the average day-time temperatures can be as high as 32 °C.
In the central parts of the main islands, average night-time temperatures can
be as low as 15 ºC.
Rainfall in Fiji is largely determined by the time of year. For example the
wet season is November to April and experiences a much larger amount of
rainfall that the other months of the year. The south eastern regions of the main
islands such as the Suva area on Viti Levu receive much more precipitation
that the rest of the islands.
Trade Winds in Fiji mostly come from the south east. These winds are usually
light to moderate with stronger winds more common in the May to November
period.
Fiji also has a cyclone season from November to April ( the rainy
season ) with can cause high winds.
